Of course, the famous Christmas sweet has its own story that takes us back to ... the 7th century! It appears to be from Persia or Lebanon and is a popular sweet not only in Greece but also in all the Balkans and Turkey.
Its name comes from the Albanian kurabie or gurabie. In Turkish it is kurabiye.
